🧭 The hut at a glance
The Leutschachhütte lies at 2,208 m between the Obersee and the turquoise Nidersee, on a sunny knoll in the Leutschachtal above Intschi (canton of Uri). The hut has an unusual history: originally built as an exhibit for the 1939 national exhibition in Zurich, the little stone building was bought afterwards by the SAC Zimmerberg section, dismantled and re-erected in the Leutschachtal in 1940. It was extended in 1986.
🛏️ Beds
- 60–63 beds in 3 dormitories (12-, 18- and 30-bed rooms)
- Duvets and pillows provided, with every 4–5 beds separated by partitions for a little privacy
- 6 additional places in the shelter room
- Washrooms with cold running water, no showers
- No online booking – reserve directly by telephone or e-mail
- Dogs welcome on request
🍽️ Services
- Half board and simple meals
- A convivial hut supper with the warden and her team
- Hot water and electricity from the hut’s own small hydroelectric plant
- Heating with wood and surplus electricity from the plant
- Supplies flown in by helicopter, with waste flown back out – sustainable operation in a remote setting
