đ§ The hut at a glance
The Grassenbiwak stands on the Tierberg, between the Titlis and the Grassen, near the Wendenjoch between Engelberg and Gadmen, at 2,647 m on the border between the cantons of Obwalden and Uri. The small, square bivouac hut was built in 1970 in the style of Jakob Eschenmoser and is run by the SAC Engelberg section. Unlike a staffed hut, the Grassenbiwak is unstaffed and intended purely for self-caterers â a spartan but spectacularly situated base in the middle of the high mountains.
