🧭 The hut at a glance
The Capanna Regina Margherita (officially Capanna Osservatorio Regina Margherita) is perched at 4,556 m on the Punta Gnifetti in the Monte Rosa massif, making it the highest hut in Europe. Visible from far down in the valley, it was inaugurated in 1893 and named after Queen Margherita of Savoy, who spent a night there the same year. As well as serving as a mountain hut, it houses an important scientific laboratory for high-altitude medicine and climate research.

- 70 beds in rooms with bunks
- Winter room with 10 places, blankets and cooking gas provided (no crockery or cutlery – bring your own sleeping bag)
- The winter room is not available during the staffed summer season and cannot be booked
- Staffed during the summer months
- Booking via the hut website is compulsory
